7-Day Devotional: The Call to Balance – Martha’s Lesson for Mothers

Day 7 – Not Alone in the Journey

Scripture: John 11:5 – “Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.”

Reflection: Jesus loved Martha. He loves mothers too—mess, busyness, and all. You are not alone in your calling; His presence is your strength.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for loving me in every season of motherhood.

Call to Action: End today by thanking God for His love and writing down one way you felt His presence this week.

Day 6 – Service as Worship

Scripture: John 12:2 – “Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served…”

Reflection: Martha served again, but this time with peace. Service is worship when it flows from love, not stress. Moms’ sacrifices are holy offerings.

Prayer: Lord, let my service be worship, not weariness.

Call to Action: Do your daily tasks with a heart of gratitude, whispering thanks as you work.

Day 5 – A Confession of Faith

Scripture: John 11:27 – “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

Reflection: Martha boldly confessed her faith. A mother’s faith lays a foundation for her children. Your belief becomes their inheritance.

Prayer: Jesus, strengthen my faith and let it overflow to my children.

Call to Action: Share one faith-filled truth with your child(ren) today.

Day 4 – Faith in Crisis

Scripture: John 11:21 – “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Reflection: Martha grieved yet still sought Jesus. Even in pain, she held to faith. Moms often carry silent burdens—your tears and faith both matter to God.

Prayer: Lord, help me bring my pain to You honestly and trust You in crisis.

Call to Action: Whisper one fear or worry to God today—then leave it with Him.

7-Day Devotional: The Call to Balance – Martha’s Lesson for Mothers

Day 1 – A Heart of Hospitality

Scripture: Luke 10:38 – “Martha opened her home to him.”

Reflection: Martha welcomed Jesus in. Like Martha, mothers are natural homemakers—creating spaces of warmth and love. Your daily hospitality, from meals to hugs, makes room for Jesus in your home.

Prayer: Lord, may my home be a place where You are always welcome.

Call to Action: Do one small act today that makes your home feel more like a sanctuary.

Motherhood

Motherhood and Identity: Thriving Beyond Limits

Motherhood is one of the most sacred callings a woman can ever step into. It is a lifelong journey of nurturing, teaching, and shaping the next generation. Yet, in the midst of diaper changes, school runs, and sleepless nights, it can be easy for a mother to lose sight of herself. Too often, women forget the dreams, gifts, and divine destinies that God has placed inside of them because they have clothed themselves only in the identity of “mother.”

But motherhood was never designed to strip you of your identity—it was meant to refine, elevate, and empower you.

As mothers, we must resist the temptation to use motherhood as an excuse not to pursue the fullness of our God-given purpose. Motherhood is not a hindrance; it is a platform. It is not an obstacle to destiny; it is part of the story God is writing with your life. Fulfilling your destiny and embracing motherhood are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they are beautifully intertwined.

The Word of God reminds us in Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” This truth applies to mothers in every season. You can build a thriving business, excel in your career, lead in your community, and still be a present and intentional mother. God never designed motherhood to be a curse or a weight that diminishes you. Instead, He has called us to live in excellence and to reflect His glory in all that we do.

Motherhood does come with challenges, but it is not a sentence to mediocrity. It is a calling to greatness. You were not created to merely survive this season—you were created to thrive. As Matthew 11:28–30 (MSG) beautifully says, “Learn the unforced rhythms of grace… Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” With God, balance, grace, and success are not only possible, they are promised.

I stand as a testimony of this truth. By God’s grace, while walking through my motherhood journey, I have been recognized with honors such as being named among the 100 Accomplished Black Women (2022) and the 100 Canada International Black Women Excellence (CIBWE) (2023). These awards are not just personal milestones—they are reminders that motherhood and success can coexist. They affirm that being a mother does not disqualify you from greatness; rather, it equips you with resilience, strength, and divine perspective to achieve even more.

My hope is that every mother begins to see motherhood as a blessing and an opportunity, not a burden. That we, as mothers, embrace the sacredness of our calling while also betting on ourselves, investing in our dreams, and refusing to settle for less than God’s best. May we all shift the narrative from enduring motherhood to enjoying it—with joy, peace, and victory in Christ.

Motherhood is a lifelong journey, yes—but it is also a lifelong platform for becoming all that God has ordained you to be. So, to every mother reading this: Thrive. Excel. Embrace your divine destiny. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Fatherhood

Building a Strong Partnership: The Role of Fathers in the Sacred Journey of Motherhood

In reality, motherhood is a shared experience that necessitates a solid relationship between both parents, despite the fact that it is frequently perceived as a very personal journey for moms alone. Fathers are essential to the peace and balance of family life because they provide for their wives and kids, not just financially or materially but also emotionally and psychologically.

Both the journey of a mother and the job of a father are extremely sacred. Fathers assist children in developing a foundation of love and faith by contributing their special skills, viewpoints, and support to the overall family dynamic.

Here are some ways fathers can contribute to the sacred journey of motherhood:

  1. Provide Emotional Support: Having someone to turn to throughout the stressful times of motherhood is crucial. By listening to their women without passing judgment, offering encouragement, and sharing the weight when it becomes hard, fathers can provide emotional support.
  2. Set Good Examples: Fathers are important role models for faith, love, and respect. A father provides a strong example for his children to follow when he leads with honesty, loyalty, and compassion.
  3. Shared Parenting Responsibilities: Parenting is a team effort, so fathers can take an active role in the daily tasks of raising children, whether it’s helping with meals, taking the kids to appointments, or simply spending time with them. The more involved the father is, the stronger the family bond will be.
  4. Support the Mother’s Spiritual Journey: The daily experiences of motherhood typically build a mother’s faith, and fathers can help this spiritual development by praying with their wives and children, going to church, and providing opportunities for spiritual reflection and conversation.

Both parents are essential in the sacred journey of motherhood, and together, as partners, fathers and mothers can build a home that embodies God’s purpose, love, and direction.
